John Brooks, left, with members of Insulet’s Podder Alliance Network (PAN) at Acton Headquarters
Soon after John Brooks’ three-year-old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, John set out on a path to find a better way to deliver insulin. This was the driving force behind the founding of our Company.
While on a plane, John scribbled ideas on a napkin for a hassle-free, disposable insulin delivery system with his business partner. The chain of events that lead from that five-hour plane ride to Omnipod is a fascinating story of skilled developers, innovative technology, and market disruption.
“In the beginning, everyone had a commitment to do whatever it took to make the product and the Company successful,” said John. “We knew our product was a great idea and that we were creating something revolutionary and truly innovative for the industry.”
John sees that talent and passion at Insulet today.
“I think that is really the hallmark of why Insulet is celebrating 25 years,” said John. “You have exceeded expectations.”
John was also instrumental in making sure many of Insulet’s technologies are patented, fortifying our industry-leading role in today’s diabetes care.
John joined Insulet at our Acton headquarters as part of our 25th Anniversary celebration. He met employees, members of our Podder Alliance Network (PAN) employee resource group (ERG), and leadership team. He also toured our manufacturing facilities and our research labs. He then joined our Global Town Hall meeting.
John is still very active in the healthcare community, serving as the Managing Director of Healthcare Capital LLC, which advises early-stage life sciences companies. He is also on the board of a number of public, private and not-for-profit organizations, and is currently the president and CEO of Diamune, Inc. John is also the former President and CEO and Chairman of the Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston, MA.
